I don’t usually talk about political stuff online, but I am starting to get really tired of the American “Health Care Debate”.

Much of the rhetoric is, to be honest, ridiculous, and does little more than show the rest of the world just how ignorant (as in, uninformed and, apparently quite proud of it) many Americans really are.

Wake up.

In the dictionary, among the synonyms for civilized are: enlghtened, educated, and  humane. It appears that a good (or at least loud) portion of the US is none of those things.  You ought to be ashamed.

There are some things that should not be for profit: your military, health care and education are three. Every citizen (at least) should have the benefit of these things. Americans spend more because their system is out to make a profit. You don’t get more. You just help the rich get richer.  And that makes you proud?

There are plenty of articles coming out on how the US system is *not* the best in the world (and no amount of saying it is changes the facts).

Universal healthcare is never *free* – not for any country that has it. It is paid for through taxes. Offering the same level of care to celebrity drug addicts, smokers, and people who get frostbite while stuck on mountains as is offered to ‘sensible’ adults is part of the price of being civilized. It also preserves every individual’s freedom. If they want to be stupid, they are free to be stupid. It isn’t freedom unless EVERYONE has it.

Everyone who works pays so everyone can have equal access. When you loose your job, you can still go to the doctor.

I fear the US has not yet developed far enough for universal healthcare.

Here’s a question for all those people opposed to universal healthcare:

I can understand wanting to discuss details about how to deliver universal care, but I CANNOT understand being against it entirely.

Any system that is NOT unversal means some people will not be able to go to the doctor when they get sick. Being against universal healthcare means you are fine with leaving some people without care. So, the question is: WHO DOES NOT DESERVE HEALTH CARE?
