- Critique of a Research Paper (30%)
- Select a research article published in a peer-reviewed journal and undertake a critique taking into consideration the following questions. Please limit your response to 6 pages. Include a copy of the article, which will be returned to you along with the remainder of your assignment.
- Checklist for Evaluating Research Articles (Lehmann & Mehrens. Educational Research in Focus" (2nd edition) Holt Reinhart & Winston, 1979)
- Is the problem clearly stated?
- Does the problem have a theoretical rationale?
- How significant is the problem?
- Is there a review of the literature? If so, is it relevant?
- How clearly are the hypotheses stated?
- Are operational definitions provided?
- Is the procedure (or method) used to attack and answer the problem fully and completely described? Was a sample used? If so, how was it selected?
- Are there any probable sources of error that might influence the results of the study? If so, have they been controlled?
- Were statistical techniques used to analyze the data? If so, were they appropriate?
- How clearly are the results presented?
- Are the conclusions presented clearly? Do the data support the conclusions? Does the researcher over generalize their findings?
- What are the limitations of the study? Are they stated?
