Make courses more engaging.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px;\">I&#8217;ve been doing this for at least 20 years: bonus points; using games AS programming assignments; inquiry-based approaches; etc. Just look over <a href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/becker\/doku.php?id=publications\">my publications<\/a>, and the <a href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/beckerblog\/tag\/gamification\/\">&#8220;gamification&#8221; posts in this blog<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\">What are\u00a0<strong>YOU<\/strong> doing to make\u00a0<strong>YOUR<\/strong> courses more engaging (for women)?<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>2. Build confidence and community.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px;\">Again, <a href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/beckerblog\/2015\/08\/28\/gamification-101-preface-to-the-start-of-term-with-a-gamified-course\/\">I&#8217;ve been doing this for at least 20 years:<\/a> bonus points; re-submission; multiple pathways to completion; flexible deadlines; removing the risk to allow people to try new things; allowing and encouraging collaboration (EVEN when the assignment is NOT groupwork),&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px;\"><span style=\"color: #339966;\">What are\u00a0<strong>YOU<\/strong> doing to build confidence and community\u00a0(and I don&#8217;t mean &#8220;boy&#8217;s clubs&#8221;)?<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>3. Demystify success.<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 120px;\">I am a sessional right now, which means I get paid to teach specific courses.
