{"id":27,"date":"2007-09-18T13:07:52","date_gmt":"2007-09-18T19:07:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.minkhollow.ca\/KB\/Blog\/?p=25"},"modified":"2010-09-26T13:00:18","modified_gmt":"2010-09-26T19:00:18","slug":"what-teachers-want-episode-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/beckerblog\/2007\/09\/18\/what-teachers-want-episode-1\/","title":{"rendered":"What Teachers Want [episode 1]"},"content":{"rendered":"<span class=\"span-reading-time rt-reading-time\" style=\"display: block;\"><span class=\"rt-label rt-prefix\">Approximate Reading Time: <\/span> <span class=\"rt-time\"> &lt; 1<\/span> <span class=\"rt-label rt-postfix\">minute<\/span><\/span><p>I&#8217;ve been struggling with my youngest son&#8217;s school of late.<\/p>\n<p>Again.<\/p>\n<p>Still.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been struggling with schools, on and off since my oldest first started school &#8211; seventeen years ago in 1990. My kids are bright, creative, and independent. Schools like compliance.<br \/>\nI&#8217;ve also been struggling with university, on and off for thirty years. As they say, &#8220;Same S*%T, different pile.&#8221; I&#8217;m independent too, though it turns out my biggest &#8216;problem&#8217; is that I have integrity. Universities like compliance too.<\/p>\n<p>We have a new principal.<\/p>\n<p>Nothing changes.<\/p>\n<p>Almost every teacher will <strong>say<\/strong> they want kids to become independent and think for themselves.<\/p>\n<p>What teachers really want is for kids to <em><strong>independently<\/strong><\/em> agree with them. And to stop bothering them.  They especially want parents to leave the &#8216;teaching&#8217; up to them.<\/p>\n<p>Teachers <strong>don&#8217;t<\/strong> want bright kids who question authority and who expect their teachers to be willing earn their respect. Teachers also <strong>don&#8217;t<\/strong> want kids or parents who call them on their &#8216;white&#8217; lies. <em>[I happen to think there ARE no white lies.
