You may either draw a single card from the Gene Pool (draw deck) or from Retirement (discard pile)<i>.<\/i><\/li>\n<li>If you can make a <a href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/gene-rummy\/?page_id=197\">set<\/a> (Mating or Breeding) then you can lay those cards down at this time.<\/li>\n<li>Whether or not you can make a set, you MUST choose a rabbit (card) from your Herd (hand) to Retire (discard a card to the discard pile), unless you have no rabbits (cards) left in your Herd (hand). The card you put on the retirement pile can be the one you just picked up if you choose.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><a title=\"Design\" href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/gene-rummy\/?page_id=21\">More on the design of the game can be found here.<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Variant: Novice Game<\/h3>\n<p>This game is a Production game where players select a rabbit from the Gene Pool or Retirement and then try to match it with the rabbits in their hands that could be its legal parents. If they succeed, then all three cards are laid down. If you can find a buck and doe in your hand that will produce this color, you can lay all three down. A Family consists of a buck and a doe and any babies that could be produced as a result of this mating.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"How to Play: Families\" href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/gene-rummy\/?page_id=456\">See\u00a0<em>THIS PAGE<\/em>\u00a0for details of this game.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Examples\" href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/gene-rummy\/?page_id=197\">See\u00a0<em>THIS PAGE<\/em>\u00a0for examples.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Mating<\/h2>\n<p>To complete a mating, you must choose one buck card and one doe card to act as the parents (sire &amp; dam). Other cards in your hand become offspring <b><i>if and only if<\/i> <\/b>they could be produced as a result of this mating according to the alleles that each parent is able to pass on. You must have at least one legal offspring in order to place a mating on the table. One mating can include up to a maximum of 4 offspring (6 cards altogether).<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Examples\" href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/gene-rummy\/?page_id=197\">See <em>THIS PAGE<\/em> for examples.<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Consistent Mating<\/h2>\n<p>A consistent mating is where all the kits in the litter could have been produced by the (genetically) same parents. Most of the genotypes have unknown alleles. Sometimes a kit will provide information about the unknowns in the parents (<a title=\"Consistent Mating\" href=\"http:\/\/minkhollow.ca\/gene-rummy\/?page_id=394\">see here for examples<\/a>).\u00a0 A consistent mating is one where the unknowns determined by all kits in the litter are consistent. In other words these kits could all have been produced in the same litter.<\/p>\n<h2>Running Out of Cards<\/h2>\n<p>When the Gene Pool is empty, players may take one additional turn, ending with the player that drew the last card. Players then total their hands as normal.<\/p>\n<h2>One Card Left in Hand<\/h2>\n<p>Since all matings and families require at least three cards, a player left with a single rabbit in the herd (card in the hand) will be unable to complete a set. If a player has only one rabbit left, they may Retire it and go out on their next turn without picking up a new card from the Gene Pool or from Retirement. If another player goes out before their next turn, then the other player gets credit for ending the hand.<\/p>\n<h2>Scoring<\/h2>\n<p>General scoring is as follows:<\/p>\n<h4>By Rank<\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Black cards are worth 10 points each.
